Can You Actually Take a Rivian to Any Body Shop?

Rivian certified collision repair — our Oxnard shop, 497 Lambert St.

Short version, as of 2026: yes — you can take a Rivian to any body shop with a bay door wide enough. Whether that shop can actually fix it is a different question, and the answer usually comes down to parts.

The short answer
  • Any shop can legally take the job. Only certified shops can buy Rivian parts.
  • Rivian runs no location in Ventura County — but Rivian certified collision centers are here. Different things.
  • A non-certified repair does not void your Rivian warranty — despite what you may be told.
  • Nearly every Rivian repair needs sensor calibration, which most general shops must send out.
  • In California, your insurer cannot force you to use its shop.

R1T and R1S owners from Ventura to Thousand Oaks ask us this across the counter, so this is the straight answer, with the sources attached.

Why this question is harder in Ventura County than in Los Angeles

Start with a distinction that shapes every other answer on this page, because two very different things both get called “Rivian.”

Rivian itself does not operate a single location in Ventura County. No service center, no showroom, no factory body shop. If you want Rivian’s own people to touch your truck, you are leaving the county.

Rivian certified collision centers are a different thing entirely. Those are independent body shops — ours included — that Rivian has trained, tooled, inspected and approved to buy factory parts and follow factory repair procedures. Those exist here. That difference is the whole answer to this question, and it is why the drive to Van Nuys is not the only option on the table.

Rivian runs no service center or showroom in Ventura County — the nearest are over the Conejo Grade. Rivian certified collision repair, though, is here.

Rivian’s own list of service centers puts the two nearest locations in Van Nuys and Burbank, roughly 50 and 60 miles from Oxnard depending on which end of the county you start from. For a software update or a warranty item, that is an annoying morning. For a truck with collision damage, it is a different calculation entirely, because now you are deciding whether to put a damaged vehicle over the Conejo Grade and through the Valley, or to have it flatbedded there, before anyone has even looked at it.

That is the practical situation for an owner in Oxnard, Ventura, Camarillo, Thousand Oaks, Simi Valley, Moorpark, Santa Paula, Ojai or Port Hueneme. Collision work is not what a Rivian service center does anyway, so the real local question is not “how far is Rivian” but “which body shop here can actually get the parts.”

Can you take a Rivian to any body shop, and will it get parts?

Rivian runs a closed parts channel. Autobody News covered the certified collision program directly, and the line that matters is this:

From the sourceAutobody News · Certified collision network
“Currently, only certified collision centers have access to Rivian parts.”
Autobody News, Rivian Expands its Certified Collision Network

No amount of goodwill at the counter changes it. Owners have figured this out the hard way.

Owner testimony · Rivian Forums

“Rivian will only provide parts to certified body shops. If you need OEM parts to fix the car, it’s really the only option.” R1T owner, certified vs non-certified thread
“The best shops in my area won’t even quote on a repair for a Rivian…Rivian won’t even sell them parts most of the time.” Owner, same thread

Those are good shops, and they are declining the job because nobody wants to write an estimate for a truck they cannot buy a fender for. A good shop knows the difference between a job and a hostage situation.

Damaged Rivian in Ventura County?

We can order every part on the list.

Our Oxnard shop is a Rivian certified collision center, serving the whole county. Start with a few photos and we’ll tell you what the repair actually involves.

What does Rivian certified actually mean?

More than a sticker on the door. According to Autobody News’ report on the Rivian certified collision network, a shop joining the program needs:

  • Current, ongoing factory training
  • Specialty tooling for the materials Rivian builds with
  • A credit check
  • A signed participation agreement
  • Passing “final validation before working on Rivian EVs”

The first facility joined in July 2020.

From the sourceRivian · Senior manager, certified collision
“We want to make sure that shops are properly trained, educated and equipped to fix the Rivian safely and properly.”
Frank Phillips, Rivian senior manager of certified collision for North America

The credit check is there for a reason: Rivian wants to know a shop can carry the cost of parts and tooling before the first truck rolls in. Tony’s went through all of it, alongside the other manufacturer programs we hold.

Does a non-certified repair void the Rivian warranty?

A lot of shops overclaim here, and we won’t. Rivian’s Certified Collision Centers support page does not say that a repair at a non-certified shop voids your vehicle warranty. If someone tells you it does, ask them to show you where Rivian says so.

What the page does say is this:

From the sourceRivian · Certified Collision Centers
“Our centers provide a lifetime warranty on all repairs.”
Rivian, Certified Collision Centers support article

That is a warranty on the repair itself, offered through the certified network. A non-certified shop can offer its own guarantee, but it isn’t the factory one, and Rivian isn’t standing behind it.

So the real trade is factory parts and a lifetime repair warranty on one side, and a shop that may not be able to source a door on the other.

What a Rivian body shop near you should be able to do

Parts, first, through the factory channel, which is the only channel.

The repair floor in Oxnard. Paint booths, structural bays and calibration all under one roof — so a Rivian doesn’t have to leave the county mid-repair.

Calibration, second. The same Autobody News report notes that “Almost every repair on a Rivian EV will require calibration.” The truck is covered in cameras and radar, and after a repair, they need to be told where they are pointing. A certified shop knows which Rivian procedures call for calibration and builds it into the repair plan from the start.

This is where the geography bites again. A general shop in the county that cannot calibrate has to send that work over the grade to a shop that can, which means your truck makes the Los Angeles trip anyway — just on a transporter and on your timeline. Ask where the calibration happens before you agree to anything.

The insurance side matters too. A certified shop knows what the factory procedures require, which means fewer arguments with the adjuster about why a part is being replaced instead of repaired. Our collision claims management service handles that conversation so you don’t have to learn adjuster as a second language.

The Rose Avenue test

Say you get rear-ended on the 101 at Rose Avenue. The shop closest to the off-ramp can tow the truck in and write an estimate. If that shop is not certified, the estimate is where the story stalls.

At a certified shop, the estimate is where the parts order starts — and the parts order is what your timeline actually depends on.

If you are searching for a Rivian body shop near you, start with where Tony’s does collision repair, then ask the certification question before you ask anything else.

Frequently asked questions

Where is the nearest Rivian certified body shop to Oxnard or Ventura?

Tony’s Body Shop in Oxnard, at 497 Lambert St, is a Rivian certified collision center, and it handles Rivian work for customers across Ventura, Camarillo, Thousand Oaks, Simi Valley, Moorpark, Santa Paula, Ojai and Port Hueneme. Our Ventura shop on Crescent St does collision repair for other makes, but Rivian repairs are completed in Oxnard. Rivian’s own certified network locator will confirm which shops near you hold the certification.

Is there a Rivian service center in Ventura County?

No. Rivian’s published service center list puts the closest Rivian-operated locations in Van Nuys and Burbank, roughly 50 to 60 miles from Oxnard. But service centers handle mechanical and warranty work, not collision repair — body work goes to Rivian certified collision centers, which are independent shops, and those you can reach without leaving the county. Ours is in Oxnard, at 497 Lambert St.

Can my insurance company make me use their body shop?

No. In California, Insurance Code section 758.5 says an insurer may not require you to use a particular repair shop. The insurer can recommend one, but the choice is yours.

Can a non-certified shop just buy the parts from a certified one?

Don’t build a repair plan on a workaround. Factory parts go to certified centers, and the owners quoted above describe shops that cannot get parts “most of the time.” If a shop tells you it has a guy, ask how long the guy takes.
